On the outside, you’re functioning… but inside, maybe you feel anxious, disconnected, and full of emotions you can’t understand. Struggling to keep it all together for others, while secretly wondering if you’ll ever feel truly okay. No matter how hard you try, you feel like you're in survival mode. If this feels familiar – be assured, you are not broken, and it’s not your fault.
For as long as you can remember, you have had to hold it together for others. Nothing changes for you. Perhaps you’re ready to feel differently. It’s not about trying harder but building capacity to understand and feel more in control of your internal world. Sharing inner stresses can release so much pain and break the cycle of trauma – it’s time to discover the origin. At the Trauma Recovery and Healing Centre, you’ll build a highly compassionate therapeutic relationship without judgement to heal and make lasting change for you.

“Healing begins when someone feels safe, believed, and no longer alone.”
Within my practice is work using a person-centred approach, focusing on the client in a compassionate way to build the therapeutic relationship at the client’s pace from a trauma-informed perspective. I also use an integrative approach as therapy progresses. Whether or not you personally use the term “trauma,” you might feel or wonder if you’re carrying elements of strain or difficulty from your past.
Trauma-informed Therapy helps you finally understand what’s happening beneath the surface - so you can start to feel steady, confident and grounded again, to heal and recover. Therapy is not a quick fix, nor does it mean you're in crisis. It’s a steady, consistent support as you take your time to work on what feels important for you.
Different job, same burnout. Different relationship, same dynamic. You’ve tried to break the cycle, but it keeps pulling you back in. Why?
Putting yourself first feels selfish. Saying no feels impossible. You’re exhausted from managing everyone else’s expectations while your own needs go unmet.
You’ve tried to figure it out on your own. You’ve analysed it, talked yourself through it, and waited for it to pass. But the feeling persists - like you’re moving through life, but everything’s feeling harder than it ought to.
You may look fine to everyone else. Inside, you’re running on empty. The coping strategies that got you this far aren’t working anymore, and you’re tired of holding it together alone.
• People worry that trauma therapy will force them to engage painful memories or push them into emotional overwhelm. That’s not how I work. We start by building a foundation of trust to create stability and understanding, so that you begin to feel truly seen and heard as part of the therapeutic process.
• We build a stable base before anything else: Before we explore what happened in the past or make big changes, we strengthen the ground beneath you. This means you leave sessions feeling more capable, not emotionally drained or unable to cope with daily life.
• Tailored sessions to what you actually need: Some people need to understand why they keep repeating the same patterns. Others need practical tools to help them get through the day. Some need to process specific experiences they’ve never talked about. We always start where you are now.
• You set the pace: You’re never pushed to share more than you’re ready for. Therapy should feel safe, not scary. We go at your pace, and you decide what we focus on.
Step 1: FREE Initial No-Pressure 1-hour Assessment Session
We talk, and you can share what’s been happening. I’ll ask a few questions to understand where you’re at and what you’d like to get from therapy. I’ll let you know if I can help and what the rest of the process might look like. This is no-pressure and no-obligation. We’ll start to map your history, your current challenges, and your goals. This is a chance to get to know you better and for us to start building rapport so that you feel comfortable wanting to move forward.
Step 2: Ongoing Therapy: Stability & Growth
We’ll meet at a frequency that works for you; most clients like to begin with weekly sessions. In the early sessions, we’ll help you operate from a stable base before exploring further. We go at your pace and focus on giving you the space and equipping you with the tools to provide lasting change.

What is Trauma-Informed Therapy?
The concept of trauma can be understood through the framework of the three E’s: Event, Experience, and Effect.
This model, outlined by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), provides a comprehensive understanding of how traumatic events are experienced and the lasting effects they can have on individuals. A natural disaster or personal violence can be traumatic if the individual experiences intense fear, helplessness, or horror. The effects of such experiences can manifest in various psychological and physiological symptoms, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), following the loss of a loved one.
How bad does my experience have to be to be called ‘Trauma’?
We all respond differently to experiences. Some are processed and left behind, while others stay with us and continue to shape how we think, feel, and relate years later. If you feel that past experiences have caused you pain and are now negatively showing up in your day-to-day life (and you’d like support in understanding and working through them), this space may be right for you.
How many sessions do I need?
Everyone is unique, and this depends on your goals and circumstances. We’ll review progress regularly, and you’re never locked into a contract, so you can stop sessions whenever it feels right. Therapy isn’t a quick fix, and progress often happens gradually and in ways that aren’t always obvious at first - feeling steadier, more aware, or less reactive are all meaningful signs of change.
Do I have to tell you everything?
You’re always in control of what you share. A common misconception is that in trauma therapy, you’ll have to share what happened to you. In fact, you don’t if you don’t want to. You might choose to later, but there’s no expectation to talk about anything before you feel ready. We’ll still do work that is just as valuable and effective without you having to disclose any details of certain past experiences. Likewise, many people find it healing (and liberating) to have an opportunity to speak about events, thoughts, or emotions that they’ve never been able to share before.
How do you monitor my progress?
You may notice changes such as feeling calmer, setting clearer boundaries, or responding differently to situations that once felt overwhelming. We will regularly review and reflect on progress together and tailor the work as needed.
Are our therapy sessions confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is taken extremely seriously. I follow professional ethical guidelines, and I’ll explain the limits of confidentiality (e.g., risk of harm) during your first session, but in general, what we discuss stays between us.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how therapy works, or to arrange a free no-pressure initial session. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to therapy, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07594 440764 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
I am based in Co Durham and offer support to people in Darlington, Newton Aycliffe, Shildon, Middlesbrough, Stockton-On-Tees as well as online throughout the UK.
